If you are dealing with panic attacks, depersonalization/derealization (DPDR), inner nervousness, or a multitude of other physical, cognitive, or emotional symptoms, you are in the right place. Anxiety manifests differently for everyone. Some people experience a few symptoms, while others, like myself, experienced many. The good news is whether your anxiety is mild, moderate, or severe it can be addressed with the same approach.
For years, I lived with severe anxiety, also known as sensitization. I experienced panic attacks regularly, heavy waves of depersonalization/derealization (DPDR) that made me feel detached from myself and the world around me, intrusive twisted thoughts that left me questioning everything, constant nervousness that never seemed to let up, and an array of other physical symptoms that kept me on edge. It was extremely emotionally draining to a point I cannot even describe, making every day feel like I was stuck in the same nightmare.
Desperate to regain control of my life, I sought help from therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. I received coping strategies that offered only temporary relief and prescribed medication that only took the edge off but never addressed the root cause. I was “diagnosed” with generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, OCD, PTSD, and depression. Knowing what I know today, although I had all of those diagnoses, they were caused by one thing: a sensitized nervous system. While I believed I had countless separate problems, the truth was they all stemmed from a single source.
Finally, an infomercial changed everything. It was truly an answer to a prayer as I was at my wit’s end. A woman spoke directly about the very symptoms that had dominated my life for so long, and for the first time, recovery actually felt possible. It took a lot of time, practice, patience, and consistency, but I was fully committed to learning the skills and healthy behaviors to retrain my brain, and that led to genuine recovery.
Today, I am calm, confident, and in control. I rejoice in the fact that I no longer live in constant fear, and I am grateful in a way that only someone who has been through hell and back can understand. When you come out on the other side, you learn to cherish the smallest things, moments of peace, laughter, and even the ability to simply carry on with your day without the weight of anxiety dragging you down. I no longer take anything for granted; these are reminders of the life I fought for and reclaimed.
If you’re tired of the bullshit, if you really want to get out of this and are ready to do the work, you can do it. Recovery isn’t about changing everything overnight. It’s about taking it step by step, learning the knowledge you need, building the skills you must have, and moving forward one day at a time. You can get your life back, and it starts with the decision to commit to the process. You are worth it!
